Buffalo National River and NW Arkansas
This morning was just fog and dull light. The two bulls are still running cows. They are located in the field by the highway 21/43 intersection and the first field south of the observation pullout. This pattern has persisted now for a few days and seems pretty settled at least in the mornings. The bachelor bull herd of small animals was up in the field just north of the mill pond again.  No bugling.

The light was really miserable, but the elk viewing was OK if you didn't wish to take pictures. No bugling yet. You know the painters have it easier than we photographers, they just declare sunlight and there you go. On mornings like today, better to paint (with imagination).

The river continues to flow very nicely and there were paddlers today. The current river conditions are kind of unusual and a great opportunity.

Fall color continues to progress. Today I saw sumac, sassafrass, sweetgum, dogwood, sycamore, and some maples beginning to turn. We achieve color when there is more color than green. Things are moving along nicely and I expect this to be an exceptional color season.
