Elk??
We got no stinkin' elk, and no bugling. The rut is just beginning. Well there were a few elk along the cane line, but the weather has them under cover. This has been a lousy stretch of weather and very disappointing. No light, just clouds, and often rain. First it was Gustav, and not it is Ike coming this weekend. Will be real tough shooting.
A fellow I spoke with this morning said he saw some small bulls migrating along the Old River Trail (ORT) this morning.
In Other Business
Today it was the Boxley Mill Pond to the rescue. A pretty good day for bird shooting but gray light is gray light. Today I finally got some decent osprey pictures.
Today the great white egret was hanging around too, and another egret that looked slightly different. Do we have a nesting pair setting up on the Boxley mill pond? Stay tuned. I don't know the biology of these birds so maybe it is totally the wrong season. It is clear though there is more than one egret.
Notes to Entry:
Sometimes one decent picture is what you get, and that is good enough. This is my preferred kind of bird shot.
Boxley Valley Update -- 09/11/08 (eek!)
Today's keeper. Osprey on Boxley Valley mill pond.
Not sure what this bird is. This is a job for Mary Ann Hicks at the Elk Education Center.
