Buffalo National River and NW Arkansas
A very difficult morning with bad fog. By the time the fog lifted the elk were back at the cane line. Evening should be fine for viewing.
I found the herd down by the south end. It is small and one bull is real weird. See picture below. I think he is a 9x3 or something. One anter is almost like a spike, the other has many small points. Odd duck. These animals look to me like they are moving north. I expect to see them at the 43/21 intersection soon.
The Ponca fields remain active. Lots of bulls running along the river making the herd bulls life miserable. Terrible day to photograph them, way too much fog.
Evenings should be a decent bet for photos. We are in the rut and anything can happen at any time.
Boxley Valley Update 09/25/08
Weird bull at south end of valley.
Old barn in last field before the south trailhead.
Ponca herd after the fog lifted. Tight against the cane line.
Blue heron at Ponca bridge.
