Buffalo National River and NW Arkansas
Today the conditions were very tough again. The rut remains on, but that doesn't mean every day is good, boy that was sure true today. I am only posting one elk photo because it really sums it up.

Boxley Valley Update 09/26/08
This about says it all. What has happened is that one of the bull that has been fighting by Ponca has come up lame. He may be done for this year, or maybe not. He is still hanging around, but he needs a rest. Judging from this picture, he is pretty used up.
So what do about this kind of situation. Go for your secondary subjects. The valley is so alive that there are always a lot of things to photograph after a disappointing morning.
There is Lost Valley and also now early fall color. For some reason everyone is in love with peak color. I do understand that, but early color is quite dramatic, and I personally love the contrast between all the greens and colors.
Below are some of these pictures from today. I have written a special entry on early fall color to stimulate your thinking.
You want what?
Garden spider along the Boxley Valley fenceline
Top and backlit sweetgum leaves taken today. So if the elk are not playing nice, move on. There is always the evening shoot.
Top and back lit oak leaves. Note what seems like brown on the surface is burnt orange when the light shines through them. Use these colors, and the lines in the leaf veins in your composition.
