Buffalo National River and NW Arkansas
This morning was a mixed bag. The elk were on the back fields somewhere with the exception of a few satellite bulls and an injured herd bull. They were located around the observation pullout. The herd bull was hiding in the observation pullout field. He is recovering from a fight and limps.

I did not hear any bugling this morning, but that would be normal without a herd around.

This situation was not what I expected, but I decided to try to catch the herd bull when he went down to the Buffalo River to get a drink. I got to where I expected him to go, but he didn't show. The day was beginning to look like a bust, but the cormorant showed up and rescued me from getting skunked. When things don't go my way, I always look for a fallback position. I was not satisfied with the cormorant pictures I got yesterday, so it was a welcome rematch. I sat in my location waiting patiently for the cormorant, and other pictures came along. All in all it was not a bad day. I got a couple of decent fall color pictures as well along the river.
